Using sculpt tool on a plane

I am trying to use a plane to resemble a path, but I would like to make the plane look more realistic by adding irregularity/unevenness in the shape so that it doesn’t look flat. Is there a way where I can adjust the vertices of the plane? I need to use a plane instead of a landscape because I am using UnrealCV which cannot generate an object mask for the landscape.
