Tessellation doesn't show up

Dear community,

no matter how I adjust the tessellation strength, it does not work.

What could be the problem?

(The wireframe mode shows also no difference)

The main thing that stop tessellation showing up is not having enough vertices on the mesh. Are you plonking this material onto the standard engine cube or sphere?

Yes I’ve put it on the standard sphere and cube. But in the material editor it was not visible too.

The material editor preview will show tessellation in an extremley exaggerated way if it does show it.

You also connected the wrong pin from the displacement texture, it should be the red :wink:

Yes and more videos. It’s strange that it’s not working. I already made a tessellation material a long time ago. It worked then.

Yes, I’ve already created a new clean material. I did only the things, which are necessary for the tessellation, but it doesn’t work too.

Have you just tried it with an absolutely standard setup, like in the vid? I see other nodes creeping around in your example. Just do it with albedo / normal / height like in the vid… no?

Last thing, what engine version?

( I have some very vague recollection of it not working in, maybe, 4.20 for me in some circumstances )

I use 4.18.3, because my computer is not working anymore and I’m using a worse pc, which supports only shader model 4 with DX 11.

Well, if you switched engine versions recently then I might start to look at that, otherwise I’m a bit stumped I’m afraid.

Have you tried just dragging an asset into your map that does have tessellation working, do you have anything like that?..

No, I don’t have an asset with tessellation,which could I use. Maybe I can try to use the version 4.17? A version above 4.18 is not possible, because unreal supports then only shader model 5.

Ok thanks I’ll try it. I’ve downloaded version 4.17.2 and the Tessellation still does not work.

I tried it with the tessellation assets from the kite demo, it still does not work. Is it possible that my graphic card cause this problem?
