Destruction of non-closed mesh

As stated in the title question. I am wondering if there is a way without fully closing off a mesh to get proper fractures through UE4? I have closed off this same mesh in maya and fracture is successful. But we have made about 100 plus different meshes that most are not closed. Is there an option that I can add to make fracturing look proper?

Here is a picture of the problem I am running into.

Thanks.

Hi Doughbott,

This is part of PhsyX requirements for meshes. This is laid out in their documentation. I looked but could not find the exact reference for this though. When not using closed geometry the destruction will not connect faces to add the geometry necessary to close the mesh pieces.

In order to have the mesh render correct geometry for chunks when using the fracture tool you’ll need to close the mesh off.

Thank you!
