Material Instance Shading Problem

Hello,

I am attempting to create a material, one that I can use for many materials in my level. However, when I assign my textures, I get a strange shading problem. You can see the texture, it is just very dark.

The same thing happens, no matter what textures I use.

Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this?

I had to add textures to my original material, then change them using a material instance.
