Any underlying tweaks for UE4 on Mac to boost performance on Retina MacBook Pro?

Hey all, I have a retina MacBook Pro late 2013, Quad 2.4, 16GB Ram, 1TB, 750m 2GB

I’ve found that OS X performance lags FAR behind that of Windows.

I’m primarily focusing on mobile titles - and don’t need the full crazy graphics in the editor. I’ve disabled most items in the Show menu, and turned the settings from Epic to Medium.

Does anyone know of any other tweaks I can use to boost frame rates and performance in editor? The Landscape Mountains example barely runs, and I’d love to make something with a large map… But - I can’t edit it on my system. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Do you have any specific examples of maps or features that are much slower in OS X than on Windows? While it’s not a secret that being limited to OpenGL 4.1 in OS X we’re unable to use certain features that would allow us to have performance similar to D3D11, the last time I checked some samples the difference was, on average, about 10-15%. If you see bigger difference, please let us know and we will investigate.

The Landscape Mountains is one of the most demanding examples we have in Marketplace. On my PC it rarely gets over 30 fps on Nvidia GTX 680, which is far above the editor’s recommended hardware requirements…

Have you tried some simpler samples, for example those designed for mobile (as that’s your primary focus)? Things for mobile development should get better in a bit once we add mobile rendering emulation in editor viewports. This should make things render faster than using full desktop renderer. I don’t know when exactly will this be ready, though.

I’m installing Windows on my MacBook Pro and will do some tests, check if the performance difference is still what it was. I’ll give you an update sometime next week.
