Cut/clip walls - sims like effect

I’m trying to achieve the same effect used in the sims type games. When the camera gets close to a wall, it “clips” it, showing what’s behind it:

I’m trying to replicate the exact same effect showed in the picture. does anyone have any pointers on how to tackle this? I’m not new to the engine, but this is very different than what I usually do, and I have no idea on where to start.
Is this possible by using just blueprints?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Esteves,

This is something that can be done by using Blueprints.

Our community manager for the Engine Development Forums, Chance Ivey, made a simple material along with using Blueprints to drive the effect you’re looking to do. He’s posted a short video, the blueprint layout, and the blueprint assets for you download as well. It may need some tweaking to get just the way you like, but it should be a good start.

Another one is our Senior Technical Artist, Allan WIliard, posted a two part video series on doing location based opacity using materials.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Hi Tim

I managed to have the tutorial that you linked working, but It is sadly not satisfying my needs.

I would like to have more control over the shape of the mask. I want a cone or cylinder that start in the camera pivot to the character center : it need to hide the materials in front of the player, but not behind him like in this game : - YouTube

Here is a visual aid of what I had in mind : Top is the SphereMask and Collectionlocator tech, and bottom is what I want to achive.

Hope you can help me !

Hi, this is a 9 or 10 year old post! That’s crazy haha. Have you found a solution yet? What did you do?

Hey there @XxdorxdomxX! Here’s a bit of an older video that describes one workflow for cutting through geometry to see the target. Later in the video it goes over how to do this with multiple.
