I am an engineering student. Can I get a student license without help from a teacher?

Since my career has little to do with programming, let alone game development, I don’t think a teacher would get the key for me, and I wouldn’t even know who to ask. Can I get the key for myself without having to subscribe?

I’d do a google and see who some staff members are who might be eligible to contact Epic Games. I’d at least email some of your professors and ask if they would know anyone who could do it. The form looks pretty simple and honestly I think any forward thinking professor wouldn’t mind helping you get this tool in your hands. Maybe Epic Games wouldn’t approve of me saying this, but chances are you know a computer science major and you could ask them to talk to a professor for you, chances are they’re a gamer and want to mess with UE4. Maybe I’m projecting myself onto every other college student in this field. It’s worth a shot.

If all else fails, I’d still get a subscription and play around because chances are you will have more fun in UE4 than you would with a steam game for the same price, given you can cancel any time and keep using it.

Hi Roberh,

In order to take advantage of our academic subscription, your instructor or another member of your school’s staff would need to contact us by going to this page:

There they can fill out the application and then we will confirm that they are a representative of an academic institution. At which point they will be allowed to deploy the engine.

Please have your instructor contact us, we are eager to help students learn UE4.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I am here to help.
