[Request] Import .uasset files with import

It would be nice to be able to import .uasset files with the import button in the content browser.

Hi ,

Keep in mind that you can add these to your Content Browser by copying the .uasset file into the appropriate folder with Windows. But I agree that a purely internal workflow would be nicer if possible. I have added your request.

Thanks!

This is much needed!

So created a few materials on my home system and when I brought them into work and copied them into the material folder in the content browser in windows it crashed UE4…Not sure why UE4 can create .uassets but do not recognize them when dragging and dropping them into content browser, or why UE4 would crash due to FAssetDataGatherer.

Please any advice would be helpful here.

You should be able to just place the .uasset files in the appropriate location in the Content folder for your project via explorer/finder; these should then appear in the content browser correctly. This is what happens when the .uasset files are placed under source control.

The content browser displays an editor representation of .uasset files, but it cannot import them directly.

Hey Jamie,
Thanks for answering and I agree with you this should be possible as you explained…

Instead i get a crash: Crash in runnable thread FAssetDataGatherer

Any additional ideas?

Hi Shog,

For your crash, please make a new answerhub question so we can track it. This seems to be a separate issue from the original post. If you could attach your dxdiag and your crashlogs to the new post it will help us to see what may be going on. Thank you!

So I did find a work around for this. Copy the material in the editor, select all, copy, paste it into a Notepad, and then send it to other computer. I then copied the text in Notepad and pasted it into a new material. Most everything transferred except a few connections which were easily hooked up.

I will try to replicate errors from previously and post.

Thanks
