How many licences do we need?

Hi

I work for a FE College in the UK and we are delighted to see that Epic are now offering UE4 free to schools and students, but we are unsure how many licences we need.

We have 50 PC’s in the games studio, but these are used for different levels/courses, so we have 100 students who would need to use UE4. Many of the students will also want to use UE4 on their personal computers for homework assignments.

How many licences do we need? If the licences are per user rather than per computer, do we need to apply each year when we have a new intake of students?

Many thanks

Peter T

Hi Peter,

Happy to help.

When you sign up for your school’s license at Learn How to Use Unreal Engine - A Powerful Real-Time 3D Creation Platform - Unreal Engine you will get 1 license that covers UE4 installation on all the school’s computers. In the signup process you will request 1 license for each student who needs UE4 on their personal computer.

In your example above the school’s “blanket” UE4 license covers the 50 computers in your computer lab and you should request 100 student licenses.

The student licenses are delivered as codes or tokens and provide 1 year access. We will deliver them to you (or the person your school designates as the UE4 administrator) and you will distribute them to your students.

At the end of the year you will make a request for more codes and distribute them to you then current students.

I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to ask more if anything is unclear.

Best,
