New subscribers won't get some of the free content?

In the FAQ, you said “there is some content that is only free to active subscribers at the time of release.” (see below for the complete Q&A) Does that mean new subscribers don’t get previously-released content that’s free for active subscribers simply because these new subscribers weren’t active subscribers at the time of release? If that is true, then if I subscribe now I won’t get a lot of the free content in the marketplace. Based on the latest UE4 twitch broadcast video, most of the free content is available (to active subscribers) rather than free for all. But, you told us “If you’re looking for a more polished product, please check back in 6 months.” People, such as myself, who listened to your recommendation and waited, miss out on some of the good stuff? I don’t understand.

  • Is free content free to everyone on the Marketplace?
  • It depends. There is some content on the Marketplace we intend to always be free, regardless of when you subscribe, and there is some content that is only free to active subscribers at the time of release. If something shows to YOU as free in the marketplace it will always be free to YOU.**

Hey deadlymajesty,

Don’t worry! That text does not mean that if you subscribe this month, something released last month won’t be available to you!

What that text means is that if you cease your subscription this month, and next month we release a free model pack, you can’t download that model pack until you’ve resumed your subscription. However, everything before this month, which is free to you right now, will continue to be free for you forever, even if you lapsed subscription.

And can free content and paid content be used in commercial projects/games without notifying their creators ?

Yes. Any content you get from the marketplace, you are free to use in commercial projects/games.
