Wet Glass Refraction & motion blur artifact?

I have a typical setup with a normal map (droplets.jpg) plugged into the refraction input of my material.

However, my wet glass material exhibit a “jelly-blur” artifact when there is movement behind the glass.

I have experimented with all of the material setting but can’t seem to eliminate it.

It’s as if the motion blur of the characters behind the glass is mixing with the translucency pass.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be the cause and how to eliminate it?

Hey Ash,

You shouldnt plug the normal map to refraction directly. Either use that normal map for a fresnel node and use that fresnel to Lerp between 1-1.1 refraction values, or use the mask texture of those droplets as the lerp’s alpha.

Ahhh, thanks Jacky, much better!

It doesn’t eliminate the artifact 100% (and it probably can’t) but it does
reduce it by at least 50% which is sufficient for the ghosting not to be so noticeable.

The masking method didn’t work as well so I’ll stick with the Fresnel.

Cheers!
